The springs of a production car is designed and built at a minimum cost, and suited for an average driver. Enthusiasts, however, are anything but average. You know what you want from your Acura TL. You want immediate response, reduced body roll, increased stability and enhanced cornering ability. You also love the look that comes with the characteristics of a lowering springs setup, and a more muscular, and athletic Acura TL stance. A set of lowering springs can enhance your vehicles aesthetic appearance by lowering your Acura TL by 1.5 inches to 1.75 inches. The handling of your Acura TL is greatly increased by lowering the center of gravity, providing a much more stable fun car to drive. Your Acura's suspension springs is very complex and the manufacturer has gone to considerable effort to balance handling, ride quality and tire wear. If your Acura is lowered past the optimum point where the suspension springs geometry will no longer function within the manufacturers desired range, you will have a vehicle that is ill handling and in some cases even dangerous to drive. Here are some other considerations to take when installing a new set of lowering springs. Remember, when you lower a vehicle the usable range of the suspension has changed. A little preventive maintenance now will save you lots of headaches later.
If your Acura TL has over 60,000 miles, they recommend replacing the shocks or struts. When you lower a vehicle with lowering springs the piston in the stock shock absorber will now be working much harder and traveling in a different range. This will cause any shock or strut that is marginal to fail within 3-6 months after installing new lowering springs. It is a good idea to use a High Performance shock.
